The formats inside

True, false or cannot say

A short business or instructional passage and a statement about it. True if the passage supports it, false if the passage contradicts it, cannot say if the passage does not settle it. Almost every publisher sets verbal this way.

True or false only

The same kind of passage with cannot say removed. Aon's Understanding of Instructions module works like this, and so does any test that refuses to let you answer “unknown”. A statement the passage leaves open still has to be called, and calling it true is the commonest way to lose marks here.

How the questions are made

These are original TestSolve questions, generated rather than written. Each passage is built from a set of underlying facts, and the statements are then generated against those same facts — restated, contradicted, given a swapped value, attributed to the wrong party, or asked about a fact that was deliberately left out of the passage.

That last case is what makes cannot say reliable here. In hand-written material cannot say is a judgement call, and reasonable people disagree about it. Here the fact is omitted from the passage on purpose before the passage is written, so cannot say is a property of the text rather than an opinion about it.

One of the two sections removes cannot say entirely. That is not a simplification — it changes the task. A statement the passage does not settle still has to be answered, and the honest answer becomes false. Candidates who have only ever practised the three-option form reliably get these wrong, which is why the pack carries both.
